Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) on Tuesday said that the federal government should stay away from state bans on same-sex marriage.

"I believe in the historic and religious definition of marriage. I also believe this power belongs to the states and the people, not the federal government. It is illegitimate for the federal courts to intrude here," he told Reason when asked about a federal judge's February ruling that Kentucky must recognize gay marriages performed in other states.

Chipotle issued a dire warning last month -- if severe weather patterns hold up, it may be forced to stop serving guacamole due to rising prices.

"Increasing weather volatility or other long-term changes in global weather patterns, including any changes associated with global climate change, could have a significant impact on the price or availability of some of our ingredients," the food chain wrote in a report released in February, according to Think Progress.

The Washington, D.C. City Council on Tuesday passed a bill that would decriminalize marijuana possession in small amounts by a 10-to-1 vote, according to NBC Washington.

The measure replaces penalties for possessing up to one ounce of marijuana with a $25 fine. It also maintains penalties for smoking pot in public, even though an earlier version of the bill removed those penalties as well, according to NBC.

Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL) this weekend said he heard a troubling description from Secretary of State John Kerry of President Obama's phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

"I asked John Kerry, 'How was that conversation?' He said it was ominous, it was worrisome. There were no commitments made by Putin," Durbin said in a speech to the Ukrainian community in Chicago over the weekend, according to Buzzfeed.

A 5-year-old boy accidentally shot his father on Saturday while he was trying on a new holster in an Oklahoma City store, police told the Oklahoman.

Darren Wayne Lannou, a Texas resident with a conceal carry permit from Texas, was in the dressing room of a Bass Pro Shop. He took off his holster and placed it on a bench where his son was playing with a phone, according to the police report.
