Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) narrowly leads former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton by four points in the Iowa Democratic contest in the latest Quinnipiac University Poll of likely caucusgoers released Wednesday morning.

Sanders earned 49 percent with strong support among men, very liberal and young voters. Clinton earned 45 percent. Former Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley (D) earned 4 percent. These results are virtually unchanged from the Jan. 12 iteration of the Quinnipiac University Poll; Clinton has gained one points since then.

“It must make her think of eight years ago when her failure in Iowa cost her the presidency,” poll assistant director Peter A. Brown said in a statement released with the results.

Sanders led among caucusgoers who said the economy and jobs was their most important issue. Clinton led among caucusgoers who preferred healthcare.

Eighty-one percent who have chosen a candidate said their choice was firm.

The Iowa Democratic caucus is Monday.

The poll was conducted among 606 likely Democratic caucusgoers from Jan. 18-24 by live interviews by landlines and cell phones. The margin of error was plus or minus 4 percent.
