Hillary Clinton leads by two percentage points among likely voters in closely watched North Carolina, according to the latest Monmouth University poll.
Clinton beats Trump, 44-42, with Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson polling at 7 percent.
Monmouth had not previously polled North Carolina voters about the general election, but a poll released Sunday by Gravis Marketing showed Clinton ahead by one percent, 44-43, among registered voters in the state.
North Carolina has been closely contested in the last two presidential elections. President Obama narrowly won the state in 2008, but lost it to Mitt Romney in 2012. The TPM Electoral Scoreboard rates North Carolina a toss up.
The Monmouth poll was conducted Aug. 20-23 among 401 likely North Carolina voters, and has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.9 percent.
TPM’s PollTracker Average for the North Carolina general election shows Clinton leading Trump, 43.9 to 43.1.
