The White House today released the tax returns of President Obama and Vice President Biden.

Obama and Mrs. Obama reported $5.5 million in income, mostly from the sale of Obama’s books. They paid about $1.8 million in federal taxes and $163,303 in state taxes to Illinois.

The Bidens made $333,182. They paid $71,147 in federal income taxes, $12,420 in Delaware income taxes and $1,477 in Virginia income taxes. (Biden’s wife, Jill Biden, filled out a separate non-resident return for the Virginia income.)

The Obamas donated $329,100 to 40 different charities, including CARE and the United Negro College Fund. Obama also directed the Nobel Committee to donate his $1.4 million prize directly to charity, and so did not claim it as income on his return.
