President Donald Trump continued his attacks against the Federal Reserve on Tuesday, calling the Fed his “biggest threat” due to its raising short-term interest rates.
“My biggest threat is the Fed, because the Fed is raising rates too fast,” he told FOX Business Network’s Trish Regan. “And it’s too independent, so I don’t speak to [Trump-appointed Fed Chair Jerome Powell], but I’m not happy with what he’s doing, because it’s going too fast, because — you looked at the last inflation numbers, they’re very low.”
Inflation rates hit a six-year high in July. Regan interjected, referring to Powell: “But you put him there.”
“I’m not blaming anybody, I put him there,” Trump responded. “And maybe it’s right, maybe it’s wrong, but I put him there. There’s a couple of other people there that I’m not so happy with, too, but for the most part, I’m very happy with people.”
