Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-MS) responded today to Rep. Peter King’s (R-NY) comments that President Obama has underestimated the threat of Islamic terrorists, saying that he thinks King is “a little bit over the edge on that.”

On MSNBC, Thompson, who chairs the House Homeland Security Committee, first responded to questions about possible security failures that may have led to the attempted bombing of Flight 253:

In some instances the right hand didn’t know what the left hand was doing. we can pass legislation all we want to requiring agencies to talk to each other, but at the end of the day those agencies, comprised of people, have to do it.

Thompson then dismissed King (who is a ranking member of the House Homeland Security Committee), who remarked that the Obama Administration has taken the threat of Islamic terrorism lightly.

“I think Peter’s a little bit over the edge on that,” he said. “I don’t think President Obama has taken terrorism lightly. He has done exactly what we needed to do.”

He continued: “His speech today was exactly on the mark. So we have to move forward.”
