RNC Chairman Michael Steele said last night that when the Republicans talk about repealing the health care reform bill, they aren’t “talking about repealing the bill for the sake of the bill,” but that they “want to repeal the bill and replace it with something that’s based on what doctor’s and patients think needs to be done.”

On Fox News last night, Steele stayed true to what Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) says will be the Republican health care slogan leading up to November: “Repeal and replace.”

Steele told host Greta Van Susteren that “a lot of people are running around saying, ‘well, why would you want to repeal the bill with all of these wonderful things that are gonna happen in the first year?'” but that Republicans want to “repeal the bill and replace it” with something better.

“That’s a big difference,” he said.

Van Susteren also asked Steele about the RNC’s “Fire Pelosi” website, which features a picture of the House Speaker engulfed in flames and calls for her ouster.

Steele replied: “I think she’s been derelict in her duty to the American people.”
