Sen. Arlen Specter (D-PA) said yesterday that he hopes Supreme Court Justice John Stevens will not retire this year, because he thinks “the gridlock in the Senate might well produce a filibuster” over a nominee to replace him.

On Fox News yesterday, Specter said that Stevens’ retirement “would tie up the Senate on a Supreme Court nominee. I think if a year passes there’s a much better chance we can come to a consensus.”
