Sen. Olympia Snowe (R-ME) sat down for an interview with Fox News’ Greta Van Susteren yesterday and seemed to lay at least a bit of blame for the Democrats’ health care troubles at the president’s feet.

“He wanted to accomplish this goal and I think, at this the point — I think the president probably realizes maybe he should have weighed in earlier in this process,” Snowe said.

Asked why Obama didn’t involve himself more forcefully earlier, Snowe continued:

It’s a good question. I know that he thought that he could weigh in during the House-Senate conference. I thought that was too late. It might not have been too late for him, but it was too late for me.

Snowe also questioned the Democrats’ ambition: “I don’t know what possessed them to think that you could accomplish such a major initiative on such a shortened timetable.”
