LONDON (AP) — British prosecutors say that a senior editor at Rupert Murdoch’s tabloid The Sun is being charged with consipiring to pay 23,000 pounds (roughly $35,000) in bribes in return for tips about the royal family.
Britain’s Crown Prosecution Service said Wednesday that The Sun’s Chief Royal Correspondent Duncan Larcombe conspired with employees of Sandhurst — Britain’s prestigious military academy — to secure royal gossip. The statement does not go into detail, but Princes William and Harry both trained at Sandhurst several years ago.
Larcombe is one of a growing number of senior Sun staff who have been charged in bribery cases linked to Britain’s sprawling phone hacking scandal since it exploded in 2011.
