A number of U.S. Senators made the Sunday morning news show rounds today, weighing in on Iran’s nuclear program and U.S. strategy in Afghanistan, among other things.

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), appearing on Face the Nation, painted a pretty frightening picture of what would happen if Iran developed nuclear weapons.

If they are successful, the Sunni Arab states in the region will want a nuclear weapon. Israel becomes much [more] at risk, and we’re walking down the road to Armageddon.

On CNN’s State of the Union, Sen. Evan Bayh (D-IN) suggested “stiff economic and financial sanctions” on Iran. Sen. Bob Corker (R-TN) said that action on Iran must be taken quickly.

We know they’re probably — today — clearing out evidence of what they’re doing there. So how quickly are we going to get our inspectors in?

Over on FOX News, Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) declared that “this is the moment of decision for Iran,” when they decide to either be “a pariah” or back down from nuclear weapon ambitions.

On Afghanistan, Graham had another scary prediction for what will happen if Gen. Stanley A. McChrystal isn’t given tens of thousands of additional U.S. troops. “We’re gonna lose,” he said. “We’ll be driven out. The Taliban will come back stronger than they were before.”

Oh, and “NATO will be seen as a failure.”

Bayh said that before we send more troops, the U.S. must decide if Afghanistan is “capable of being a coherent nation-state.” If it is, then we should give them a couple more years and the U.S. troops they need to sort it out. And if not?

“Then devoting more resources to try and prevent the inevitable probably doesn’t make much sense,” Bayh said.

Sen. Kit Bond (R-MO) said on FOX that President Obama is “dithering right now and delaying troops.” Feinstein countered that “he should take his time and do the right thing.”
