Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL) on Sunday gave tacit approval of President Donald Trump using emergency powers to construct a wall along the southern border.
“It’s not my first choice for him to use his emergency powers,” Scott told NBC “Meet the Press host Chuck Todd. “But he’s proposed things. Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi are not negotiating with him in good faith, I don’t believe.”
Trump has repeatedly and openly contemplated declaring an emergency in order to circumvent the congressional appropriations process and build the wall through executive authority.
If he were in Trump’s position, Scott said Sunday, “I would go out there and I would say ‘I’m going to use whatever power I have to solve the problem.'”
“We have to have border security. We have to take care of the DACA kids. And on top of that, I think we need to have a permanent solution for [Temporary Protected Status]. Let’s go start solving these problems instead of talking, talking, talking and nothing gets done,” Scott said.
