The RNC is backing President Donald Trump in his criticism of Adm. William McRaven, insisting that he is a political figure.

McRaven was named in a preliminary list of possible vice presidential candidates for Hillary Clinton in June 2016, in an email disseminated by WikiLeaks.

McRaven denied Trump’s claim that he was a “Hillary Clinton fan,” saying he didn’t “back Hillary Clinton or anyone else.”
