A new Republican National Committee web video — titled “Behind Closed Doors” — slams Democrats for what the RNC calls “Harry Reid’s back room health care negotiations.”
A narrator’s voice says near the beginning of the ad, “You know the Democrats would just love for you to believe they are the party of change and transparency — a government you can trust to allow all to participate in the process.”
He then laughs somewhat sinisterly: “Ha-ha. But that’s just a disguise.”
He continues:
They’re hiding their government-run experiment because they don’t want you to discover that the results of their proposal will increase both taxes and the cost of health care and that government will stand between you and your doctor.
“It may be Halloween,” he says, “but the Democrats’ intentions cannot be disguised.”
In a statement announcing the ad, RNC Chairman Michael Steele said this:
Just like President Obama, Sen. Reid and Congressional Democrats promised a more open and transparent government. But Sen. Reid is crafting the Democrats’ government-run health care experiment behind closed doors with his handpicked liberal allies in the Capitol. The American people should not be fooled by empty promises – any legislation that Harry Reid and Chris Dodd assemble behind closed doors will increase taxes on American families and small businesses, cut Medicare for seniors, cripple state budgets, and lead to a government takeover of health care. Sadly, Harry Reid and Chris Dodd are more interested in backroom deals than living up to their own promise of transparency.
