A Gallup poll released today finds that only 41% of Americans believe that race relations have gotten better since President Obama took office.

According to the poll, 22% of Americans think race relations have actually gotten worse, while 35% think they’ve stayed the same. This marks a significant departure from the 70% of Americans who in November said they believed an Obama presidency would improve race relations.

When broken down by race, the poll finds that 53% of blacks think that race relations have improved overall, as opposed to only 39% of whites.
