LOS ANGELES (AP) — Police in a San Diego suburb tackled an abduction suspect to the ground and rescued four children after a highway pursuit and standoff in California.

California Highway Patrol troopers began pursuing a black Nissan sought in the case of a missing Southern California family Thursday at about 8:30 a.m.

The vehicle came to a stop near a highway onramp near Santee. Two of the children escaped and officers then used armored trucks to surround the suspect’s vehicle.

The suspect then stepped out of the car and walked toward the edge of the overpass, where he was tackled and taken into custody.

Authorities say all four children are safe and unhurt.

The body of a woman was found in another vehicle belonging to the family Wednesday. She has not been identified.
