After meeting today with members of the Senate Judiciary Committee, President Obama has begun reaching out to Republicans about a potential Supreme Court nomination pick.

As Christina Bellantoni reported earlier, Obama met with key Senators today, though according to Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV), “no names were discussed.”

Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-VT), who chairs the Judiciary Committee, said after the meeting that he hopes “groups on the far right and the far left” are ignored. He added: “I would hope that nobody would stake out a position before they even hear of the nominee.”

Obama is now also apparently making overtures to Senate Republicans, reportedly calling Sens. Orrin Hatch (UT), Lindsey Graham (SC) and Jon Kyl (AZ) today.

He also spoke with Sens. Dianne Feinstein, (D-CA), Dick Durbin (D-IL), Chuck Schumer (D-NY), Arlen Specter (D-PA), Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI), and Amy Klobuchar (D-MN).
