The New Jersey State Senate approved a bill legalizing marijuana use for medical reasons, by a vote of 25-13.

After the state assembly passed the measure yesterday, the state senate voted to allow people suffering from serious illnesses to use medical marijuana for pain relief.

Gov. Jon Corzine has said he will sign the bill, called “Compassionate Use Medical Marijuana,” before he leaves office on January 19.

This bill will make New Jersey the 14th state in the U.S. to allow medical marijuana use. If signed, it will take effect within six months.
