The New Jersey Assembly has approved a measure today that, if passed by the state senate, will legalize medical marijuana in the state.

If passed, the measure would make New Jersey the 14th state in the U.S. to legalize marijuana use for severely ill patients.

Gov. Jon Corzine has said he will sign the measure into law before leaving office next Tuesday. Governor-Elect Chris Christie has also said he will support the measure.

The state senate is scheduled to vote on the measure later today.
