More than 200 government jobs at the facility would be cut under a plan to turn the work over to a private defense contractor in the Army's latest privatization move. In an effort to save money, the Army has awarded a tentative five-year contract for the work, worth about $61 million, to Johnson Controls World Services Inc. of Milwaukee. ROCKAWAY TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) — A northern New Jersey arsenal has been evacuated after a driver tried to enter through its truck gate, and authorities are treating the situation as an explosive threat.

Officials at Picatinny Arsenal security personnel noticed something suspicious within the vehicle as it approached the gate at around 11:30 a.m. Friday. Further details haven’t been disclosed.

The driver is in custody and being questioned.

The military base has been coordinating with local, state and federal agencies.

Employees were instructed to leave the post around 1:45 p.m., and a stretch of highway near the base has been closed in both directions.

The arsenal is about 35 miles west of New York City.
