The elderly mother of Gregory Giusti, the man who is charged with making threats against Speaker Nancy Pelosi, is partially blaming Fox News for radicalizing her son.

“Greg has — frequently gets in with a group of people that have really radical ideas and that are not consistent with myself or the rest of the family and — which gets him into problems,” said Eleanor Giusti, 83, in an interview with ABC 7. “And apparently I would say this must be another one that somehow he’s gotten onto either by — I’d say Fox News or all of those that are really radical, and he — that’s where he comes from.”

Now, obviously, millions of people watch Fox News every day without being driven to threatening the lives of elected officials. Besides that, there’s no evidence that Giusti was a Fox fan. But this is his mother’s statement.

ABC 7 also reported that Giusti has a criminal record for petty crimes including evading train fare. His mother told the station he has a history of mental problems.

Here is part of that segment from ABC 7, via Media Matters:

Pelosi’s spokesman said in a statement late Wednesday, “After an investigation into threats made against Speaker Pelosi, an arrest has been made in San Francisco. The Speaker thanks the FBI, the Capitol Hill Police, House Sergeant at Arms, and other law enforcement officials for their professionalism in this matter. She will have no further comment at this time.”

We have more on the case here.
