Michael Moore and Stephen Colbert couldn’t agree on much of anything last night, as they repeatedly tried to correct each other throughout an interview on the Colbert Report.
“Why are public sector unions attacking Republican governors around the United States?” Colbert asked at the start of the interview.
“I think it’s the other way around,” Moore began.
“That’s not how I framed it,” Colbert interjected.
Later, Colbert accused Moore of class warfare for criticizing the imbalance of wealth in America. But Moore responded that it was actually the rich who were the ones committing class warfare.
“They’re committing warfare on us,” Moore said. “They’re committing warfare on the people of this country.”
One of the only things the two could agree on was that unions have been steadily weakened over the years. But while Colbert saw that as a sign that the free market had determined unions were outdated, Moore had a different take.
“The unions are on the ropes,” Moore said. “And that’s because the people with wealth have done everything they can to help destroy these unions.”
“They see unions as that last line of defense, and they’ve got to break down that last line,” he added.
