Jon Stewart was so frustrated Wednesday night with Fox News’ bogus scandal about hip-hop artist Common coming to the White House that the only way he could express his outrage was by rapping about how lame Fox News is.

Stewart was flabbergasted by Fox’s charge, echoed across several programs, that President Obama had invited a rapper who advocated gang violence and cop killing to perform at the White House. But as Stewart pointed out, not only do Common’s lyrics advocate peace and nonviolence, but Fox has a clear double standard when it comes to violent rhetoric.

“Are we really doing this again?” Stewart asked. “For this guy? Common? The guy from the GAP ads? The guy from the Queen Latifah rom-com? Elmo’s friend?”

Stewart then rolled footage of Fox hosts reciting portions of Common’s lyrics out of context, and then becoming irate that a songwriter who penned violent lyrics would be going to the White House. Stewart said it appeared as though they, “took the time to ignore Common’s entire body of work save for one poem he wrote in 2007 that they appear to misunderstand.”

As he showed, the commentators focused solely on one portion of one poem. But that poem, as Stewart showed by reciting more of the lyrics, ends with a plea for non-violence.

Stewart then hearkened back to George W. Bush, who once lauded Johnny Cash, a singer known for such lyrics as, “I shot a man in Reno just to watch him die.” Fox took no issue with that incident, Stewart said.

And if that wasn’t damning enough, Stewart then focused specifically on Sean Hannity, who once defended Ted Nugent for explicitly talking about shooting Obama and Hillary Clinton. However Hannity, of course, was particularly critical of Common’s lyrics.

“This isn’t even fun anymore,” Stewart said. “I barely even get angry about this stuff. I just feel sorry for you guys now.”

“It’s almost impossible to express how ridiculous this, and you all are, at this point,” he added.

But there was one way Stewart said he could express how ridiculous Fox News looked: through the art of song. So, pulling a metronome from beneath his desk, Stewart then thoroughly ripped Fox News with a satirical rap.
