Presidential Senior Adviser Valerie Jarrett said on Meet the Press this morning that while President Obama has “pushed for” a public health insurance option in health care reform legislation, “he’s not demanding that it’s in there.”
And much like White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel and senior adviser David Axelrod did in their television appearances today, Jarrett emphasized that many of the country’s problems were inherited by President Obama from his predecessor.
“Let’s remember the conditions that the president inherited — a global meltdown,” she said. “He has pulled us back from the precipice.”
On the economy, Jarrett said “we are beginning to see signs of hope” although “the unemployment rate is still much too high.”
Still, she said, “it’s premature to say a second stimulus is needed.”
