Idaho State Rep. Jim Clark (R) has introduced legislation that would keep the federal government from requiring Idaho residents to buy health insurance.

The bill, called the “Idaho Health Freedom Act,” was introduced today to the House State Affairs Committee, and says that “every person in the state of Idaho is and shall continue to be free from government compulsion in the selection of health insurance options.”

According to McClatchy, Clark told the committee upon the bill’s introduction: “It is time all legislators who believe in states’ rights to move from talking about it making policy to make it happen.”

The measure was co-sponsored by Rep. Lynn Luker, R-Boise and Rep. Raul Labrador, R-Eagle.
