Harley D. Brown, a congressional candidate in the Republican primary for Idaho’s 1st district, represents the best (or worst) of far-right, anti-government politics. He demands that President Obama produce his birth certificate, and professes “an intense burning desire to destroy all the works of those Progressive Liberal Politicians in Washington D.C. whom I brand as vile domestic enemies to the country,”

He has also apparently adapted as his campaign slogan: “Harley D. Brown — A real man for Congress.”

Described as a “perennial” candidate by The Idaho Statesmen, Brown ran for mayor of Boise in 2001, and managed to scrape together 2.88% of the vote — 964 votes total.

So who is Brown? And what is his platform?

A former Navy “Seabee,” Brown describes one of his previous jobs on his website bio page:

I was also a Taxicab driver and evangelist in Boise, ID where I led approximately 1,000 lost souls to the Lord Jesus Christ: Drunks and Winos, Hookers and Strippers, Bums, and Homeless; Hippies and Rainbow people, Bikers, and Villains, Truckers and Construction workers, Businessmen and Proletarians, psychos and weirdo’s, homos and lesbians; even some people who looked normal and smelled nice.

I considered myself the “intake manifold to the Kingdom of God”

Now that I am retired I have an intense burning desire to destroy all the works of those Progressive Liberal Politicians in Washington D.C. whom I brand as vile domestic enemies to the country and Constitution we’re SWORN TO DEFEND.

Brown has an entire page on his website called “Demand Obama’s Birth Certificate,” and promises that, if elected, he will “scream like a F-4 Jet fighter at full war emergency after burner take off power and demand he produce his birth certificate.”

This is “‘DO OR DIE,'” he says. “They will have to kill me to get me to shut up.”

He lists “Mighty War Department” as one of his “key issues,” and professes strong pro-gun, anti-gays in the military positions. The “Immigration Policy” page of his site has a simple message: “Content Comming [sic] Soon. But for now its Adios Amigos.”

“Nuke their ass and take their gas” appears to be a key tenet of his foreign policy, along with “NEVER send a Marine where you can send a bullet and ALWAYS send the BIGGEST bullet you’ve got.”

He also notes: “Congress needs someone crazy like me to combat their insanity.”
