PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Rhode Island House Speaker Gordon Fox says he is resigning from his leadership post and will not run for re-election, a day after federal and state authorities raided his Statehouse office and home.

Fox says in a written statement sent Saturday evening that he will not let Friday’s raids distract his colleagues from addressing the challenges facing the state. He says he wants to focus on his family and dealing with the investigation.

The raids were part of an investigation by the U.S. attorney’s office, FBI, IRS and state police. Officials haven’t said whom or what they are investigating.
