Gibbs: Obama Would Love To Go On The Daily Show — But Not The Colbert Report

Time‘s Michael Scherer asked the really tough question when he caught up with White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs yesterday, pushing him on whether the President would appear on The Daily Show.

Gibbs’ response? Yes.

“I think the president would love to, just maybe not Colbert,” Gibbs told Scherer.

Gibbs continued:

I have yet to see a politician best Stephen Colbert in an interview on his show. I mean, he’s really, really good.

Quite an opportunity for whoever books Jon Stewart’s interviews — not to mention a gold mine for Colbert’s writers.

Comedy Central’s response?

“The President has an open invitation to appear on The Daily Show and The Colbert Report anytime he wants to,” Comedy Central spokesman Steve Albani told Greg Sargent.

Seems like everyone’s agreed, then. We’ll be watching…
