Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said during today’s press briefing that President Obama will announce a replacement soon for resigning Director of National Intelligence Dennis Blair.

Blair’s resignation is effective next Friday.

“The deputy director at DNI will become the acting director,” Gibbs said. “The President has talked to a number of well-qualified candidates and will make an announcement on who the next permanent DNI will be soon.”

My guess is there is probably no harder job in Washington beside being President than being director of national intelligence.

“The President simply believed that it was time to transition to a different director of national intelligence,” Gibbs said.
