Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said at a press briefing a moment ago that President Obama’s decision on whether to send more U.S. troops to Afghanistan will be made “in the next few weeks.”
“The president will make a decision in the new few weeks, in the coming weeks, as I’ve said,” Gibbs said.
We’ve all been wondering when the decision will come, with a number of lawmakers and other officials weighing in on whether the troop decision ought to come immediately or be held off on until after the recently-announced Nov. 7 runoff election in Afghanistan. Gibbs didn’t offer much of a signpost there.
It could be before the runoff, it might be after the runoff.
Pressed for more, Gibbs said, “I don’t know when a decision’s gonna come. The president could walk out here in a minute. I don’t expect that to happen. It could happen.”
