In an interview on MSNBC this morning, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said that Khalid Sheikh Mohammed will be brought to justice “in some form or another.”

“Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, in one form or another, will have to answer for his crimes. And I believe he will be guilty and will have to pay the punishment for those crimes,” Gibbs said, adding that he believes that punishment will be execution.

Daily Rundown host Savannah Guthrie asked him repeatedly whether the administration would hold Mohammed indefinitely, give him a civilian trial or try him before a military commission.

“Khalid Sheikh Mohammed is a thug who can and will be brought to justice,” Gibbs said.

“Can he be brought to justice without a trial?” Guthrie said.

“He will be, in some form or another, either a military commission or in a federal court,” Gibbs finally said.

The Justice Department announced months ago that Mohammed would be tried in federal court in New York City, but after outrage from some and resistance from New York officials, the administration has since backed off, saying President Obama has not made a decision on where to try Mohammed and several co-conspirators.
