WASHINGTON (AP) — A federal watchdog faults the Drug Enforcement Administration over allegations that agents attended sex parties with prostitutes while stationed overseas.

A new report from the Justice Department’s inspector general found problems in the department’s handling of sexual harassment and misconduct allegations from 2009 through 2012.

The report cites allegations that DEA agents attended sex parties with prostitutes funded by local drug cartels, which several agents ultimately admitted. DEA is a unit of the Justice Department.

But it says internal affairs investigators erred by not referring the case to the office that evaluates the employees’ security clearances.

A prostitution scandal involving the Secret Service drew attention to questionable behavior by law enforcement officers while stationed overseas, prompting Congress to order a review of other agencies’ practices.
