Sen. Kit Bond (R-MO), who charged yesterday that the Obama Administration has kept key terrorism-related intelligence from him, fell asleep in an intelligence briefing yesterday, according to the Wall Street Journal.

One person who was in the room for Tuesday’s intelligence briefing said Bond appeared to fall asleep for 10 to 15 minutes, but that he and other senators had spirited exchanges with the briefers.

Yesterday, Bond claimed on MSNBC that Attorney General Eric Holder had “executed a hostile takeover of the intelligence community” and was refusing to give Bond’s intelligence committee the information it’s asking for.

But when it came time to be briefed, Bond reportedly couldn’t stay awake.

His office attempted to brush off the criticism. A spokesperson told the Journal that “resorting to baseless personal attacks clearly shows Senator Bond touched a nerve and raised questions someone doesn’t want asked.”

Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-UT) also said Bond “was awake” — but seemed to also open the door to the possibility that Bond’s eyes might have gotten droopy.

Hatch said that sometimes the lights in the room are so bright “you have to rest your eyes for a bit; you get light burn.”
