According to at least one news report, Rep. John Murtha’s (D-PA) doctors may have accidentally nicked his intestine during surgery, causing an infection that contributed to his death yesterday.

Murtha had surgery on January 28 after experiencing gallbladder problems, which began in December.

According to a Pittsburgh Post-Gazette source, complications developed after doctors nicked his intestine during laparoscopic surgery to address the problems.

Politico also said Murtha’s death was “a result of complications from recent surgery.”

Murtha died yesterday at the Virginia Medical Center in Arlington, VA. He was 77.
