A number of important Democrats — including White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel — are meeting right now to try and broker a final deal on health care reform.
Others attending the meeting are Sens. Max Baucus (D-MT) and Kent Conrad (D-ND), and Bill Dauster, who serves as Majority Deputy Staff Director and General Counsel for the Senate Finance Committee, and is considered an authority on reconciliation procedures.
Reps. James Clyburn (D-SC), Sander Levin (D-MI), Xavier Becerra (D-CA) and John Lewis (D-GA), Nancy-Ann Deparle, director of the White House Office of Health Reform (or “health czar”), Democratic Caucus Chair John Larson, House Budget Committee Chairman John Spratt (D-SC), and Rep. George Miller (D-CA), who chairs the House Committee on Education and Labor, are among those present.
Rahm Emanuel reportedly took no questions.
