Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) suggested on MSNBC today that Harriet Miers — yes, that Harriet Miers — was, in some ways, a more qualified Supreme Court nominee than Elena Kagan.

“Do you think Harriet Miers was more qualified than Elena Kagan for the court?” Savannah Guthrie asked.

“I think certainly by virtue of her practical legal experience, Ms. Miers had eminently more experience as a lawyer,” Cornyn said.

Cornyn also said he sees a “probability” that Kagan will be confirmed eventually.

“I think there’s a probability she’ll be confirmed,” Cornyn said. “And I told the president that I believed she would get a dignified and civil hearing.”
