Egyptians may not have believed President Hosni Mubarak’s speech yesterday, in which Mubarak said he never wanted to become a dictator, but at least one person was willing to defend him: Stephen Colbert.

Reacting to Mubarak’s speech last night, Colbert agreed that the Egyptian President never intended to rule the country for 30 years.

“No,” Colbert began. “He wanted to dance.”

With a doctored pictured of Mubarak in a leotard displayed on screen, Colbert further explained what drove Mubarak away from his one-time dream.

“You know how it is,” Colbert said. “You get out of Juilliard, you take a dictator’s job just to make ends meet, and the next thing you know it’s been 30 years of rigged elections and human rights violations.”
