Stephen Colbert came to the defense of Fox News last night for their claim that Libyan leader Muammar Qaddafi was using foreign reporters as human shields.

“Fox News refuses to be Qaddafi’s human shield,” Colbert said, “because they’re already on retainer for the Koch brothers.”

Earlier this week, Fox News said they did not send a reporter on a government-led tour of Libya due to concerns that Qaddafi was using reporters as human shields. A CNN reporter then shot back, calling that report “outrageous” and “hypocritical,” and saying he’d seen Fox’s reporter, Steve Harrigan, more often at breakfast than out in the field.

But Colbert said that didn’t prove that Harrigan wasn’t doing his job.

“Just because you only see him at breakfast, doesn’t mean he’s not risking his life,” Colbert said. “Do you know how much cholesterol those bacon and eggs have?”
