Stephen Colbert isn’t convinced that Japan’s nuclear crisis should derail the construction of new nuclear plants in America.
Last night, Colbert noted that white smoke is still pouring from a quake-damaged nuclear reactor in Japan.
“It either means the reactor has gone critical, or they’ve elected a new Pope,” Colbert said.
Colbert cautioned against using the disaster as a reason for abandoning nuclear energy altogether. According to him, all other energy sources have their own dangers.
“It’s as safe as any other energy source,” Colbert said of nuclear power. “Last year we had the BP oil spill, the Massey coal mine collapse, and let’s say a windmill robbed a bank.”
