Secretary of State Hillary Clinton weighed in yesterday on reports that Abdullah Abdullah — Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai’s main rival in a Nov. 7 runoff vote — would drop out of the race, which Abdullah has now officially done, citing concerns about the integrity of the election.

In video showed on CNN a moment ago, Clinton said, “When President Karzai accepted the second round without knowing what the consequences and outcome would be, that bestowed legitimacy from that moment forward. And Dr. Abdullah’s decision does not in anyway take away from that.”
