The Cleveland Indians’ field uniforms will no longer display the logo for Chief Wahoo, the team’s mascot that has been called insensitive and racist to Native Americans for years, CBS Sports reported.
The team rolled out their new uniforms on Monday for the 2019 season, with no trace of the divisive logo. The team has been working toward eliminating the controversial logo for the last few years and has replaced it with the block letter “C” on helmets and baseball hats. Last year, Chief Wahoo still remained on the sleeve of team jerseys and in the team’s hat rotation, according to CBS. In 2019, the MLB All-Star Game logo will appear on sleeves instead.

While fans are reportedly still attached to the Chief Wahoo imagery, the team came to the decision in January that the logo was no longer “appropriate for on-field use,” Major League Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred said at the start of the year.
The team will still sell some merchandise with the controversial logo on it to keep the trademark in their possession, CBS reported.
