Teaparty.com might soon be on the auction block.

Registered in 1993, teaparty.com won’t greet you with messages from the Founding Fathers or talk of government overreach. Instead you’ll see reunion tour dates for a Canadian rock band, The Tea Party, and a note: “No politics… just rock and roll.”

Bloomberg Businessweek‘s Joshua Green, who spoke to the band, reports that The Tea Party is considering selling. “So much damage has been done to our name by the political movement that we’re considering selling,” bassist Stuart Chatwood told Businessweek.

And as Businessweek reports, the site is potentially worth a lot of money. GoDaddy.com president Warren Adelman said that, given how much money political campaigns raise, “it’s easy to expect teaparty.com to go for well over $1 million.”

And Chatwood said one agent claimed the domain name could net more than $10 million, CBS reported Sunday, but he’s pretty skeptical of that figure. The band would rather not sell the site to a tea party-affiliated buyer, but if the price is right they might be convinced.

Businessweek reports that the band hasn’t ruled anything out yet, saying “We’ve got families.”

But one tea party group isn’t rushing to make an offer. Tea Party Express communications director Levi Russell emailed TPM to say, “We’re pretty happy with our web address … and wouldn’t have a great deal of interest in buying teaparty.com.

The band did not reply to TPM’s request for comment.
