Vice President Joe Biden today addressed chatter that the Israeli flotilla raid has created a fissure between the United States and Israel. Those reports, he said, are “vastly exaggerated.”

Speaking at the Harvard Club in Manhattan today, Biden called for a “quick and transparent investigation” into the incident, but reiterated the Obama Administration’s commitment to Israel.

“No administration has been more supportive of Israeli security than this administration,” he said. “We have been deeply, deeply, deeply involved with Israel. I want to set the record straight. Make no mistake, there is no distance on the question of Israel’s security.”

Biden emphasized that the President had reached out to Israeli Prime Minster Benjamin Netanyahu following the raid, and that there is “no space between Israel and the United States.”

“Things have calmed down greatly,” he said. “The reports are so vastly exaggerated.”
