Joe Biden and Sarah Palin once faced off in a vice presidential debate. Now they’re at odds again — this time over death panels.

In her long-awaited debut speech in Asia this week, the former Alaska Governor defended death panels as a “serious term.” Seriously.

The Vice President, speaking at a town hall meeting with senior citizens in Maryland today, also took up the topic of death panels. But somewhat less seriously.

As Real Clear Politics picked up on, Biden reportedly tried to reassure gathered seniors by telling a story about a recent visit with his mother in Delaware.

I walk in, give her a kiss. She says, “Joey, what about these death panels?” And I said, “Mom, I’m trying to kill you.” She said, “I’m serious, Joey. What about these death panels?” I said, “Mom, it’s hokum. It’s a bunch of malarkey.”

According to Real Clear Politics, Biden continued that “no one in the government, nobody anywhere, no panel is going to sit down and tell your doctor anything about how to care for you.”
