Top Obama adviser David Axelrod was on David Letterman last night and explained Tuesday’s presidential seal gaffe on thusly:
“You know we’ve been here almost two years, five hundred speeches probably, never happened before and I can only think of one thing…witchcraft.”
Shazam! Axelrod also speculated on the rise of the Birthers saying that “there is that strain, it’s always been there in politics, these are times of great strain and stress, but it is no doubt promoted by our friends at Fox and others, and that’s part of the politics we have to deal with.” Letterman, meanwhile, thinks Birtherism is the equivalent of parsley.
Axelrod also noted that a lot of the prospective 2012 GOP candidates work for Fox News “so if they all run for President there will be a lot of openings over there, so if you know anybody send them over.”
Regarding a Sarah Palin run, Axe thinks she’s just enjoying the attention and has her own “special type of charisma,” moreover, he has a “soft spot” for her after she winked at him at the Vice Presidential debate. Watch below.
