A judge will allow accused fraudster Allen Stanford to be transferred from a private Texas jail to a federal prison in downtown Houston so he can better prepare his case, Bloomberg reports.
Stanford, who as of last night was still in a prison infirmary after suffering injuries in a fight, will be closer to court-appointed lawyers at the Houston facility.
U.S. District Judge David Hittner noted the sprawling nature of the case to explain the transfer:
The court recognizes the extraordinary nature and complexity of this case, the extent and gravity of the charges levied against Stanford, the hundreds of thousands of records involved, and the enormous amount of time no doubt necessary to review those documents and adequately prepare a defense.
