At a press conference this morning, Rep. Charlie Rangel (D-NY) told reporters that the House ethics committee looked into “more alleged violations” than have been reported in the press.

“They finally have investigated and guess what, they have some more alleged violations so they’re going to report this to the full committee,” he said, reports Politico‘s Maggie Haberman.

The committee has reportedly been looking into — at Rangel’s request — whether Rangel broke ethics rules by keeping four rent-controlled apartments in Harlem and by writing fundraising letters for an educational center named for him on Congressional letter.

But they may have looked into other allegations of wrongdoing, Rangel said.

The congressman has been defiant since the ethics committee announced that it is charging Rangel with as yet unnamed violations. But asked today if he’s confident, he said, “I’m not. This is a very traumatic experience for me and for my family and my constituents. I can only hope that…all the facts come out before my primary election, before my general election.”
