Rep. Charlie Rangel (D-NY) has been charged with ethics violations, the House ethics panel announced today.

The committee did not announce the specifics of the violations.

The panel has reportedly been investigating Rangel for the four rent-controlled apartments he rents in Harlem and his fundraising efforts for a City College of New York educational center named in his honor.

An adjudicatory committee, which will try Rangel on the violations, will hold a public meeting next Thursday, July 29.

Rangel told reporters this afternoon that he doesn’t know what the charges are.

“I just got notice today. They haven’t told me a darn thing. … I don’t know what they’ve come up with finally,” Rangel said, according to CNN’s Evan Glass.

The ethics committee admonished Rangel in February, saying he broke House rules by accepting corporate-sponsored trips to the Caribbean.

He’s also accused of securing a tax break for a donor to his educational center. And he’s had to pay $10,000 in back taxes and amend his financial disclosure statements after failing to report assets, including a villa in the Dominican Republic.
