FBI Director Robert Mueller told the House Judiciary Committee on Wednesday that the continuing resolution passed by the GOP-controlled House to fund the federal government through September could undermine FBI’s efforts to continue to transform the bureau into a national security agency.
“Under current levels of the continuing resolution the FBI will have to absorb over $200 million in cuts, and without any changes the current CR will leave us with over 1100 vacant positions by the end of the year,” Mueller said.
“Put simply, these cuts would undermine our efforts to transform the FBI and potentially carry out our mission,” Mueller said.
The FBI’s budget request for fiscal year 2012 requests an increase of $131 million compared to the 2011 fiscal year budget.
