Still more details are emerging in court filings about the Hutaree Christian militia, and unlike last week’s revelation that police were in a dramatic armed standoff with member Josh Stone, 21, the latest filing offers almost sitcom-like details of the inner workings of the group.
In a filing arguing against bond for Tina Stone, the woman who married alleged Hutaree leader David Stone late last year in a heavily-armed ceremony, prosecutors allege that Tina Stone and Josh Stone — David’s son from a previous relationship — once got into an argument after Tina submitted a job application on his behalf.
The argument arose, naturally, during an alleged discussion “about building destructive devices for the Hutaree.” The filing alleges:
“During this meeting, she also related that she and another Hutaree member had put in a job application on behalf of Joshua Stone without his knowledge. The defendant indicated that Joshua Stone became angry when he learned of this because he did not need a job because the war was approaching and getting ready for the war was his job. The defendant noted that she was employed even though she too was preparing for ‘the war.'”
Both Tina and Josh Stone are among the nine alleged Hutaree members facing charges in an alleged plot to kill police.
According to prosecutors, Tina Stone interjected in an planning session on building Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) to offer that metal coffee cans she had might be just the thing for an explosively formed projectile-style IED.
Later in the conversation, the defendant had a conversation with the individual who she believed could build the IED/EFP, concerning the use of metal coffee cans that she had on hand. TINA STONE appeared surprised that some of the metal coffee cans that she had might not work in the construction of the IED/EFP as some of the cans that she had were not all metal. Upon learning this, the defendant asked David Stone if they still had all the coffee cans from the other house.
In a later conversation, Tina Stone allegedly said that she “had obtained the tools necessary
to remove the road sign from its posts and expressed her intent to gather additional cans
capable of serving as liners for additional devices.”
